Garibaldi slice

Ingredients

Base

  • 250 g flour
  • 6 g baking powder
  • 140 g butter
  • 100 g sugar
  • 1 egg

Filling

  • 200 g strawberry jam

Topping

  • 200 g ground roasted hazelnuts
  • 4 egg whites
  • 50 g sugar

Instructions

Base

  • Knead all the ingredients into a uniform dough.
  • Roll it with a rolling pin to ca 1 cm thick.
  • Bake it at 180℃ for ca 15-20 minutes.
  • Let it cool down .
  • Spread the jam on top of the cold base.

Topping

  • Whip the egg whites and the sugar until you get stiff peaks.
  • Fold in the ground hazelnuts carefully.
  • Spread the mixture on top of the jam.
  • Bake on 180℃ for ca 10 minutes, keeping an eye, so it only gets a slight browning on the top.
